Graduate Study Awards

The NZAE Education Trust has established awards of up to $500 each for research students in New Zealand.  The awards enable students to participate in the annual conference of the Association.

Awardees have the opportunity to participate in the largest economics conference held in New Zealand, meet with leading scholars visiting the conference and generally participate in the conference.  In addition to the funds, awardees receive free registration to the conference (or a refund if already paid), complimentary attendance at the conference dinner and awards ceremony, and a one-year membership to the New Zealand Association of Economists.

The Trust will accept applications from students enrolled in New Zealand universities.  Priority will be given to students who are presenting at the conference (poster or paper).

To be considered, students are asked to provide the following by the closing date (given below):

  1. complete and return the Graduate Study Awards Form;
  2. AND provide a copy of their academic record;
  3. AND a 2-page extended abstract;
  4. AND their supervisor’s signed support.

Important Dates

  • Applications close on May 10, 2024.
  • Awardees will be notified within 10 days if they are successful.

NOTE: Payment of any monies will only be in NZ dollars, either by way of an NZ cheque made out to the awardee as the payee or a direct debit to a NZ bank account held in the name of the awardee.

NZAE Membership

Members of the NZAE typically have a degree in economics or commerce and in the normal course of work use the tools of economic analysis as teachers, investigators or advisors on economic matters.
